I'll never forget the day I got the email from PracticeLink Magazine wanting me to take a paid photo of Springfield Missouri for an article on Springfield in their Winter 2021-2022 issue. How exciting, and such an honor to even be considered. They wanted a photo that was unique to Springfield. Something that when you looked at it, you knew it was Springfield.
They liked one of my photos of the historic Route 66 sign at the Springfield Visitor Center, Welcome to Springfield
, but they didn't like the parking garage in the background. Well, I can't do anything about the parking garage so my next thought was the historic downtown square, called Park Central Square. It's full of historic buildings and runs along the Route 66 Byway.
It's always funny how photographers like me have lots of photos of different places, but not as many as our own home town! I've been meaning to get downtown to take photos for several years, but always find myself to busy to get down there. So when I got this email, I knew it was time to go. My husband and I waited for a descent weather and sky evening. Finally got a day with some clouds and headed down there. While there the clouds somewhat went away, but there were still a few. We took photos starting just before sunset and through twilight/blue hour.
I sent them several photos to choose from and this is the one was the winner; Evening At The Springfield Square Fountain. A few months later, the issue was out! (see photos below). It's always exciting to see my work published. It's a blessing and an honor. Thank you PracticeLink!
