Just wow! What a drive! During our trip to Moab, Utah, we took the beautiful and scenic I-70 through Colorado. It has to be my favorite drive to date that I have been on. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful drives in the United States and I have to say, I agree.
It's really beautiful all the way from Denver to Moab but I did most of the video you see below between Denver and Glenwood Springs.
We went in early May of 2024. Make sure you check the road conditions before you take this route, even in the spring, summer and fall. It runs through the mountains which can have a lot of snow and icy conditions. Can also have mud issues if there is a lot of rain. Just a couple days before we went through there, a couple of tunnels were closed because of snow avalanches and icy road conditions. Also a single accident can back up traffic for hours so it's best to know if there are any issues or not before you go through. There are a few website out there where you can find out.
You will drive through multiple tunnels that cut through the Rocky Mountains, along with beautiful breathtaking views of the mountains, Glenwood Canyon, Colorado River, and more. I love how in sections the highway splits into two different bridges with one high and one low. You will find yourself looking up a lot. There aren't too many places to pull over on the road until you hit some of the many ski towns along the way.
Part of the highway through Glenwood Canyon was completed in 1992 so it's currently the last addition to the US highway system at the time went went through.
Since there wasn't really any places to pull over, I didn't get to take many photos this time but hope to get back there to stay nearby and capture some photos.
We did do a video of most of the drive. This route takes 2 hour and 40 min between Denver and Glenwood Springs. Video has been sped up to fit in 40 minutes. Hope you enjoy and hope you get to take the majestic drive as you won't regret it.
Be Blessed!
