Alaska is a beautiful state and the breathtaking Mt Denali, also known as Mt McKinley (that's what it was known as when we traveled there) is a must see.
I was hired to photograph a wedding in Talkeetna Alaska during the summer time. For the first 3 and half days, it started raining that night and continued almost non-stop. The day we went into Denali National Park, it was raining and foggy. We weren't able to see the tops of the mountains at that time but it was still beautiful and I got some great photos along with the wonderful memories.
On the 4th day we were there, the rain stopped just 30 minutes after the wedding. Thankfully we were able to get some outside photos with the beautiful couple. The next day we were planning to head south to Seward Alaska. The groom suggested we get up early and back track the total 3 hour round trip to see the mountain range. He had heard it was supposed to be a clear day.
So we got up much earlier than planned and headed north to Denali State Park. He was right! It was completely worth the 3 extra hours. The weather was beautiful but the view was even more magnificent! The moment we walked around the pathway from the parking lot, we saw this fantastic view:
I was almost speechless! Like the ocean, there's something about these beautiful mountains that just makes all your problems seem so small. These majestic mountains are so beautiful and so large. Denali is the 3rd tallest mountain in the world and the tallest in the United States. It's also considered the world's coldest mountain. Last I read the lowest temperature recorded is -73 degrees celsius! I can't even imagine that! There's snow on the top of the mountain year around.
Needless to say we spent some time there enjoying the view and of course capturing lots of photos (you'll want a to have a good camera when you go to Alaska) . My daughter always gets frustrated at how many photos I have to take lol. I love the soft cloud that hoovers just below the mountain peak. You can see it's majestic size against the cedar trees below it. The Susitna River just below was flooded the day before from the almost 4 days of rain and is now low. Nature sure is amazing.
In the photo above is my dad, mom, daughter and myself in the pink jacket. What a beautiful day it was! To check out more of my Alaska photos, click here

If you go to Alaska during the summer, be prepared for lots of rain and or cloudy days.Only about 20% of those visiting during the summer get to see the top of Mount Denali so we felt truly blessed to get to see it. Thank you Lord for this wonderful opportunity and thank you to the wonderful bride and groom for letting me capture their wedding!
