How did I get into photography?
It's actually a skill I had, but didn't realize it until I was in my 30's. I've been a shutterbug my whole life (well, at least until I could handle an old point and shoot film camera as a young child). My school friends remember me as the one with a camera in hand. And now they come to me for old photos. My husband gave me my first DSLR camera for Christmas in 2006. It was a Sony A100. From that moment I became even more of a shutterbug and started taking the annual portraits of our daughter.
A friend approached me in 2011 asking if I had ever thought about doing photography professionally. I had never really thought about it before. I loved photography, my Uncle used to be a professional photographer, and I had some cousins that were into photography. Several family members and friends would tell me I have the eye for it. So, I thought I'd give it a shot and started doing some portrait sessions with friends to get a feel for it. After falling in love with it, I started studying my camera settings and photography. I taught myself by experimenting with my camera and watching many, many videos on youtube and lots of article reading. I updated my camera and started investing in lenses and equipment. If you're thinking about getting into photography, be prepared for the expense. It is a very expensive hobby / business. I've had to slowly invest in piece by piece at a time because of the expense.
Through the process I discovered my love of Fine Art photography. I love capturing nature's beauty. Nature is always changing and there are so many beautiful aspects and places to this world that we live in. After having a good sized collection of photos, I decided what good was my collection if I didn't get it out there for others to see and enjoy. So in 2014 I joined Fine Art America and put my work out there for the world to see. Then I opened a gift store at Zazzle. Since 2014, my art and gift items have been sold world wide. I've been published and interviewed by bloggers. To learn more about my work and to hear stories behind some of my photos, follow this blog. You can also follow me on various social media sites.
I hope you enjoy my photos and art as much I enjoyed taking and processing them.
